Understanding the translation of Surah Mulk begins with an essential truth: what is read in English or Urdu is an explanation of meaning, not the Quran itself. The Quran exists only in its original Arabic, where every word carries divine eloquence, depth, and spiritual power that no translation can fully convey. For instance, the phrase “Blessed is He in Whose Hand is the dominion” attempts to express the Arabic word Tabāraka (تَبَارَكَ), a single term that includes meanings of everlasting blessing, supreme exaltation, and infinite abundance. Such richness cannot be fully transferred into any other language.

This is why scholars clearly state that they translate the meanings of the Quran, not the Quran itself. Both English and Urdu serve as important bridges for understanding the translation of Surah Al-Mulk. English translations offer clarity and accessibility for global readers, students, and younger generations, while Urdu translations connect deeply with cultural, emotional, and devotional traditions in South Asian Islamic heritage. Phrases like “بڑی برکت والا ہے” carry spiritual warmth and historical resonance that English may not fully reflect, while English provides direct comprehension and structure for modern readers.

Most importantly, these translations are tools rather than final destinations. The purpose of reading the translation of Surah Mulk is reflection, guidance, and transformation of the heart and actions. A meaningful translation is one that encourages contemplation of Allah’s signs, inspires awareness of creation, and reminds the reader that Allah knows what lies within the hearts. Readers should choose the language that speaks to them best, but they should not stop at reading alone. The Arabic Quran remains the eternal revelation, while translation serves as the starting point for understanding and spiritual growth.

Verse 1

Arabic: بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ تَبَارَكَ الَّذِي بِيَدِهِ الْمُلْكُ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

English Translation: Blessed is He in Whose Hand is the dominion, and He is Able to do all things.

Urdu Translation: بڑی برکت والا ہے وہ جس کے ہاتھ میں بادشاہی ہے اور وہ ہر چیز پر قادر ہے۔

Verse 2

Arabic: الَّذِي خَلَقَ الْمَوْتَ وَالْحَيَاةَ لِيَبْلُوَكُمْ أَيُّكُمْ أَحْسَنُ عَمَلًا ۚ وَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الْغَفُورُ

English Translation: Who has created death and life that He may test you which of you is best in deed. And He is the All-Mighty, the Oft-Forgiving.

Urdu Translation: جس نے موت اور زندگی کو پیدا کیا تاکہ تمہیں آزمائے کہ تم میں سے کون اچھے عمل کرتا ہے۔ اور وہ غالب اور بخشنے والا ہے۔

Verse 3

Arabic: الَّذِي خَلَقَ سَبْعَ سَمَاوَاتٍ طِبَاقًا ۖ مَّا تَرَىٰ فِي خَلْقِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ مِن تَفَاوُتٍ ۖ فَارْجِعِ الْبَصَرَ هَلْ تَرَىٰ مِن فُطُورٍ

English Translation: Who has created the seven heavens one above another; you can see no fault in the creation of the Most Gracious. Then look again: can you see any rifts?

Urdu Translation: جس نے سات آسمان تہہ بہ تہہ بنائے۔ تم رحمٰن کی تخلیق میں کوئی بے ربطی نہیں دیکھو گے۔ پھر نظر اٹھا کر دیکھو، کیا تمہیں کوئی شگاف نظر آتا ہے؟

Verse 4

Arabic: ثُمَّارْجِعِ الْبَصَرَ كَرَّتَيْنِ يَنقَلِبْ إِلَيْكَ الْبَصَرُ خَاسِئًا وَهُوَ حَسِيرٌ

English Translation: Then look again and yet again, your sight will return to you in a state of humiliation and worn out.

Urdu Translation: پھر بار بار نظر دوڑاؤ، تمہاری نگاہ ناکام اور تھک کر تمہاری طرف پلٹ آئے گی۔

Verse 5

Arabic: وَلَقَدْ زَيَّنَّا السَّمَاءَ الدُّنْيَا بِمَصَابِيحَ وَجَعَلْنَاهَا رُجُومًا لِّلشَّيَاطِينِ ۖ وَأَعْتَدْنَا لَهُمْ عَذَابَ السَّعِيرِ

English Translation: And indeed We have adorned the nearest heaven with lamps, and We have made them missiles to drive away the devils, and have prepared for them the torment of the blazing Fire.

Urdu Translation: اور ہم نے قریب کے آسمان کو چراغوں سے سجایا اور انہیں شیاطین کے لیے مار کا نشانہ بنایا اور ہم نے ان کے لیے دوزخ کا عذاب تیار کر رکھا ہے۔

Verse 6

Arabic: وَلِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِرَبِّهِمْ عَذَابُ جَهَنَّمَ ۖ وَبِئْسَ الْمَصِيرُ

English Translation: And for those who disbelieve in their Lord is the torment of Hell, and worst indeed is that destination.

Urdu Translation: اور جن لوگوں نے اپنے رب سے کفر کیا ان کے لیے دوزخ کا عذاب ہے اور وہ بہت بری جگہ ہے۔

Verse 7

Arabic: إِذَا أُلْقُوا فِيهَا سَمِعُوا لَهَا شَهِيقًا وَهِيَ تَفُورُ

English Translation: When they are cast therein, they will hear its (terrible) drawing in of breath as it blazes forth.

Urdu Translation: جب وہ اس میں ڈالے جائیں گے تو اس کی بھیانک آواز سنیں گے اور وہ جوش مار رہی ہوگی۔

Verse 8

Arabic: تَكَادُ تَمَيَّزُ مِنَ الْغَيْظِ ۖ كُلَّمَا أُلْقِيَ فِيهَا فَوْجٌ سَأَلَهُمْ خَزَنَتُهَا أَلَمْ يَأْتِكُمْ نَذِيرٌ

English Translation: It almost bursts with fury. Every time a group is cast therein, its keepers will ask them: “Did no warner come to you?”

Urdu Translation: قریب ہے کہ وہ غصے سے پھٹ پڑے۔ جب بھی اس میں کوئی جماعت ڈالی جائے گی تو اس کے داروغے ان سے پوچھیں گے: کیا تمہارے پاس کوئی ڈرانے والا نہیں آیا تھا؟

Verse 9

Arabic: قَالُوا بَلَىٰ قَدْ جَاءَنَا نَذِيرٌ فَكَذَّبْنَا وَقُلْنَا مَا نَزَّلَ اللَّهُ مِن شَيْءٍ إِنْ أَنتُمْ إِلَّا فِي ضَلَالٍ كَبِيرٍ

English Translation: They will say: “Yes, indeed a warner did come to us, but we belied him and said: ‘Allah never sent down anything, you are only in great error.'”

Urdu Translation: وہ کہیں گے: ہاں، ہمارے پاس ڈرانے والا آیا تھا لیکن ہم نے جھٹلایا اور کہا اللہ نے کچھ نہیں اتارا، تم صرف بڑی گمراہی میں ہو۔

Verse 10

Arabic: وَقَالُوا لَوْ كُنَّا نَسْمَعُ أَوْ نَعْقِلُ مَا كُنَّا فِي أَصْحَابِ السَّعِيرِ

English Translation: And they will say: “Had we but listened or used our intelligence, we would not have been among the dwellers of the blazing Fire!”

Urdu Translation: اور وہ کہیں گے: اگر ہم سنتے یا سمجھتے تو ہم دوزخ والوں میں نہ ہوتے۔

Verse 11

Arabic: فَاعْتَرَفُوا بِذَنبِهِمْ فَسُحْقًا لِّأَصْحَابِ السَّعِيرِ

English Translation: Then they will confess their sin. So, away with the dwellers of the blazing Fire!

Urdu Translation: پس انہوں نے اپنے گناہ کا اقرار کر لیا۔ تو دوزخ والوں کے لیے دوری ہے۔

Verse 12

Arabic: إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَخْشَوْنَ رَبَّهُم بِالْغَيْبِ لَهُم مَّغْفِرَةٌ وَأَجْرٌ كَبِيرٌ

English Translation: Verily, those who fear their Lord unseen, for them is forgiveness and a great reward.

Urdu Translation: بیشک جو لوگ اپنے رب سے بن دیکھے ڈرتے ہیں ان کے لیے بخشش اور بڑا اجر ہے۔

Verse 13

Arabic: وَأَسِرُّوا قَوْلَكُمْ أَوِ اجْهَرُوا بِهِ ۖ إِنَّهُ عَلِيمٌ بِذَاتِ الصُّدُورِ

English Translation: And whether you keep your talk secret or disclose it, verily, He is the All-Knower of what is in the breasts.

Urdu Translation: اور چاہے تم اپنی بات چھپاؤ یا اسے ظاہر کرو، بیشک وہ دلوں کی باتوں کو جانتا ہے۔

Verse 14

Arabic: أَلَا يَعْلَمُ مَنْ خَلَقَ وَهُوَ اللَّطِيفُ الْخَبِيرُ

English Translation: Should not He Who has created know? And He is the Most Kind, the All-Aware.

Urdu Translation: کیا وہ نہیں جانتا جس نے پیدا کیا؟ اور وہ باریک بین، خبردار ہے۔

Verse 15

Arabic: هُوَ الَّذِي جَعَلَ لَكُمُ الْأَرْضَ ذَلُولًا فَامْشُوا فِي مَنَاكِبِهَا وَكُلُوا مِن رِّزْقِهِ ۖ وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ

English Translation: He it is Who has made the earth subservient to you, so walk in its paths and eat of His provision. And to Him is the Resurrection.

Urdu Translation: وہی ہے جس نے تمہارے لیے زمین کو مطیع بنایا، پس اس کی راہوں میں چلو اور اس کا رزق کھاؤ، اور اسی کی طرف اٹھ کر جانا ہے۔

Verse 16

Arabic: أَأَمِنتُم مَّن فِي السَّمَاءِ أَن يَخْسِفَ بِكُمُ الْأَرْضَ فَإِذَا هِيَ تَمُورُ

English Translation: Do you feel secure that He Who is above the heaven will not cause the earth to sink with you, and then it should quake?

Urdu Translation: کیا تم اس سے بے خوف ہو جو آسمان میں ہے کہ وہ تمہیں زمین میں دھنسا دے اور وہ لرزنے لگے؟

Verse 17

Arabic: أَمْ أَمِنتُم مَّن فِي السَّمَاءِ أَن يُرْسِلَ عَلَيْكُمْ حَاصِبًا ۖ فَسَتَعْلَمُونَ كَيْفَ نَذِيرِ

English Translation: Or do you feel secure that He Who is above the heaven will not send against you a storm of stones? Then you shall know how has been My warning!

Urdu Translation: یا تم اس سے بے خوف ہو جو آسمان میں ہے کہ وہ تم پر پتھراؤ کرنے والی آندھی نہ بھیجے؟ پھر تم جان لو گے کہ میری تنبیہ کیسی تھی۔

Verse 18

Arabic: وَلَقَدْ كَذَّبَ الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ نَكِيرِ

English Translation: And indeed those before them belied (the messengers), then how terrible was My denial!

Urdu Translation: اور بیشک ان سے پہلے لوگوں نے بھی جھٹلایا تھا، پھر دیکھو میرا عذاب کیسا تھا۔

Verse 19

Arabic: أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا إِلَى الطَّيْرِ فَوْقَهُمْ صَافَّاتٍ وَيَقْبِضْنَ ۚ مَا يُمْسِكُهُنَّ إِلَّا الرَّحْمَٰنُ ۚ إِنَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ بَصِيرٌ

English Translation: Do they not see the birds above them, spreading out their wings and folding them in? None holds them except the Most Gracious. Verily, He is the All-Seer of everything.

Urdu Translation: کیا انہوں نے اپنے اوپر پرندوں کو نہیں دیکھا جو پَر پھیلائے اور سمیٹے ہوئے ہیں؟ انہیں سوائے رحمٰن کے کوئی نہیں تھامتا۔ بیشک وہ ہر چیز کو دیکھنے والا ہے۔

Verse 20

Arabic: أَمَّنْ هَٰذَا الَّذِي هُوَ جُندٌ لَّكُمْ يَنصُرُكُم مِّن دُونِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ ۚ إِنِ الْكَافِرُونَ إِلَّا فِي غُرُورٍ

English Translation: Who is it that can be an army for you to help you besides the Most Gracious? The disbelievers are in nothing but delusion.

Urdu Translation: بھلا کون ہے جو تمہاری فوج بن کر رحمٰن کے سوا تمہاری مدد کرے؟ کافر صرف دھوکے میں ہیں۔

Verse 21

Arabic: أَمَّنْ هَٰذَا الَّذِي يَرْزُقُكُمْ إِنْ أَمْسَكَ رِزْقَهُ ۚ بَل لَّجُّوا فِي عُتُوٍّ وَنُفُورٍ

English Translation: Who is it that can provide for you if He should withhold His provision? Nay, but they continue to be in pride and flight from truth.

Urdu Translation: بھلا کون ہے جو تمہیں رزق دے اگر وہ اپنا رزق روک لے؟ بلکہ وہ سرکشی اور نفرت میں اَڑے ہوئے ہیں۔

Verse 22

Arabic: أَفَمَن يَمْشِي مُكِبًّا عَلَىٰ وَجْهِهِ أَهْدَىٰ أَمَّن يَمْشِي سَوِيًّا عَلَىٰ صِرَاطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ

English Translation: Is he who walks prone (without seeing) on his face, better guided, or he who walks upright on the Straight Path?

Urdu Translation: بھلا جو شخص منہ کے بل اوندھا چل رہا ہو، وہ زیادہ راہ پر ہے یا وہ جو سیدھا راستے پر چل رہا ہو؟

Verse 23

Arabic: قُلْ هُوَ الَّذِي أَنشَأَكُمْ وَجَعَلَ لَكُمُ السَّمْعَ وَالْأَبْصَارَ وَالْأَفْئِدَةَ ۖ قَلِيلًا مَّا تَشْكُرُونَ

English Translation: Say: “It is He Who has created you, and endowed you with hearing, seeing, and hearts. Little thanks you give.”

Urdu Translation: کہہ دو: وہی ہے جس نے تمہیں پیدا کیا اور تمہارے لیے کان، آنکھیں اور دل بنائے۔ تم بہت کم شکر کرتے ہو۔

Verse 24

Arabic: قُلْ هُوَ الَّذِي ذَرَأَكُمْ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَإِلَيْهِ تُحْشَرُونَ

English Translation: Say: “It is He Who has created you on the earth and to Him you shall be gathered.”

Urdu Translation: کہہ دو: وہی ہے جس نے تمہیں زمین میں پھیلایا اور اسی کی طرف تم جمع کیے جاؤ گے۔

Verse 25

Arabic: وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هَٰذَا الْوَعْدُ إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ

English Translation: They say: “When will this promise come to pass, if you are truthful?”

Urdu Translation: اور وہ کہتے ہیں: یہ وعدہ کب پورا ہوگا اگر تم سچے ہو؟

Verse 26

Arabic: قُلْ إِنَّمَا الْعِلْمُ عِندَ اللَّهِ وَإِنَّمَا أَنَا نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ

English Translation: Say: “The knowledge is with Allah only, and I am only a plain warner.”

Urdu Translation: کہہ دو: علم صرف اللہ کے پاس ہے اور میں تو صرف کھلا ڈرانے والا ہوں۔

Verse 27

Arabic: فَلَمَّا رَأَوْهُ زُلْفَةً سِيئَتْ وُجُوهُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا وَقِيلَ هَٰذَا الَّذِي كُنتُم بِهِ تَدَّعُونَ

English Translation: But when they will see it approaching, the faces of those who disbelieve will be sad and gloomy, and it will be said: “This is what you were calling for!”

Urdu Translation: پھر جب وہ اسے قریب آتا دیکھیں گے تو کافروں کے چہرے بگڑ جائیں گے اور کہا جائے گا: یہ وہی ہے جس کا تم مطالبہ کرتے تھے۔

Verse 28

Arabic: قُلْ أَرَأَيْتُمْ إِنْ أَهْلَكَنِيَ اللَّهُ وَمَن مَّعِيَ أَوْ رَحِمَنَا فَمَن يُجِيرُ الْكَافِرِينَ مِنْ عَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ

English Translation: Say: “Tell me! If Allah destroys me and those with me, or He bestows His Mercy on us, who can save the disbelievers from a painful torment?”

Urdu Translation: کہہ دو: بتاؤ تو! اگر اللہ مجھے اور میرے ساتھیوں کو ہلاک کر دے یا ہم پر رحم فرمائے، تو کون کافروں کو دردناک عذاب سے بچائے گا؟

Verse 29

Arabic: قُلْ هُوَ الرَّحْمَٰنُ آمَنَّا بِهِ وَعَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْنَا ۖ فَسَتَعْلَمُونَ مَنْ هُوَ فِي ضَلَالٍ مُّبِينٍ

English Translation: Say: “He is the Most Gracious, in Him we believe, and in Him we put our trust. So you will come to know who is it that is in manifest error.”

Urdu Translation: کہہ دو: وہ رحمٰن ہے، ہم اس پر ایمان لائے اور اسی پر بھروسہ کیا۔ پس تم عنقریب جان لو گے کہ کھلی گمراہی میں کون ہے۔

Verse 30

Arabic: قُلْ أَرَأَيْتُمْ إِنْ أَصْبَحَ مَاؤُكُمْ غَوْرًا فَمَن يَأْتِيكُم بِمَاءٍ مَّعِينٍ

English Translation: Say: “Tell me! If your water were to sink away, who then can supply you with flowing water?”

Urdu Translation: کہہ دو: بتاؤ تو! اگر تمہارا پانی زمین میں اتر جائے تو کون تمہارے لیے بہتا ہوا پانی لائے گا؟
